Judith Moore

Judith began her art in the mid 1960’s with a workshop at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Later she majored in art at San Diego State University, studying under artists like Joan Austin and Arlene Fisch, focusing on fiber arts, papermaking and ceramics.

In the early 1980’s, she fell in love with Hawaii, and the ancient petroglyph art she found there, leading to a desire to bring pieces home and share them with others. In Hawaiian lore, removing any lava from the islands brings on the curse of Pele. So she began creating them in her studio to closely resemble the lava, and thus began The Ancients.

The petroglyph designs have lead to other media such as her beautiful and sensitive hand carved gourds and her ink drawings, reproduced into note cards.

In addition to her art, Judith and her husband are active Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe paddlers and coaches for Ikuna Koa Outrigger Canoe Club in San Diego, California. She is currently training for the 2006 Molokai, Na Wahine O’ Ke Kai, a 41 mile race from the island of Molokai to the island of Oahu across the Ka’iwi Channel.

Robert Rollbusch

Bob’s artistic interests are varied, and include stained glass as well as quilting which he has shown at the San Diego Quilt Show, various Quilt Guild events and retail establishments. He is also artistic with Scroll Sawing, displaying his work at Southern California art festivals and events. At the West Coast Wood Show, Bob and his wife Brenda, volunteer each year, instructing kids on how to safely use a scroll saw for the Make a Memory Program, recently featured in Scroll Saw Magazine.

Inspired by the Hawaiian pertroglyphs and Judith’s enthusiasm he has created a line of earrings and necklaces. Using laminated wood, each piece is lightweight yet sturdy. The shapes are intricately cut, sanded, stained and varnished to create wearable art. The results are fun and durable pieces that will last for many years.
